There is an old assumption in the Rio Grande Valley that to build something serious you have to leave. Go to Austin, go to the coast, go where the capital and the talent already are. We think that assumption is out of date, and increasingly wrong.
The Valley has what a company actually needs to start: people who work hard, a cost of building that a coastal city cannot touch, and a border-region market with real problems worth solving. What it has lacked is not talent or ambition. It has lacked the connective tissue, the first check, the first mentor, the first person who has done it before and will pick up the phone. That gap is not a law of nature. It is just something nobody built yet.
Valley Tech Lab is our attempt to build it. It is a free founder program convened by Greenridge Ventures, for people building technology companies in the Rio Grande Valley. Free, because a first-time founder in an underbuilt market should not have to pay for the thing that everywhere else is simply assumed.
The Valley is not a place you leave to build. It is a place to build.
A company that starts here, stays here, and hires here changes what the next founder believes is possible. That is the compounding we are after: not one success, but the proof that success does not require a plane ticket. Greenridge builds in regulated terrain for a living.
